One comment on the above: It's a shame I didn't apply myself more seriously to learning the piano, as I'm sure if I'd learnt to play properly it would have given me a lot of pleasure. And I could join Jenny, who not only plays piano but has a degree in music. But I don't regret my half-heartedness. I regret nothing.
I often talk to myself, it's the only way to have a sensible conversation.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Nick!!
Sxx
Ms Scarlet: Or as Woody Allen said, I talk to myself because I'm the most intelligent person I know. And Merry Christmas to yourself!
DeleteMy father said he talked to himself as it was the only way to get a sensible answer. I follow in his footsteps. Merry Christmas to you both.
ReplyDeleteFly: Same here, my father used to talk to himself. But I don't remember him producing any witty explanations!
DeleteVery interesting list! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteColette: Happy Christmas! Now you know what a weirdo I am!
DeleteAt about her third lesson the music teacher led my youngest daughter back to the waiting area and told me the child refused to learn. My oldest daughter was, and remained a student for years, until she left for college. The teacher dismissed my younger daughter. This daughter bought a piano when she could afford it, and became a decent pianist.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you.
Joanne: Interesting that your two daughters had very different attitudes to learning the piano. Good that the youngest eventually became a pianist.
DeleteI only have 25 teeth. I had 26 until just recently, though. I'm in the process of having one replaced with an implant. It's a front tooth so I'm glad I wear a face mask everywhere. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda Sand
Linda: I gather getting an implant is quite a long-winded process. But a missing front tooth isn't attractive! Luckily I haven't lost any of my teeth yet.
DeleteMerry Christmas. I hope you have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI speak to myself when I have something tricky to achieve .Concerning the dark , i love the dark and was never afraid even as a child. I sniffed cocaine twice and stopped , I felt so good after , that I was really afraid to get used to it and need it.. I play piano , learnt it nearly alone and like "improvisations " as the French say , Jazz is my favorite music and I participared to many Jam Sessions , a wonderful memory lane. . I love your list.
ReplyDeleteHannah
Hannah: Learning the piano nearly alone is impressive. I'm not keen on jazz, I prefer rock music. My father loved jazz. I don't know why I hate the dark, it must date back to some upsetting childhood experience in the dark.
DeletePS: By the way we have several very funny behaving squirrels in our garden , but my favorite animals are the penguin and the crow, the most intelligent bird.
ReplyDeleteHannah
Hannah: Jenny and I both love penguins. I don't think I could even identify a crow!
DeleteThanks, Nick, for sharing this list which did give me a morning smile. Yes, I also talk to myself and sometimes it’s a shame I don’t listen better😉. I have nothing against squirrels, just not a favorite. Like yourself, I regret not having applied myself better to the piano lessons my parents paid for and finally stopped.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you and Jenny for a good 2023.
Beatrice: I didn't learn to play the guitar either, even though in the 1960s everyone was an aspiring guitarist. And a Happy New Year to you too.
DeleteHow kind of you to give blood so often. How unkind of that piano teacher. Sounds like she wasn’t very good at her job.
ReplyDeleteBijoux: I was only stopped from donating because of worries over my blood pressure (which was only marginally too high). The piano teacher was a man. Maybe I would have got on better with a woman??
Deleteha, ha, cats usually run away from you. In horror films cats are often depicted as knowing when an evil spirit is present!! I'm confident you're not that though Nick. I often talk to myself, particularly when I'm doing crafts. I share you fondness for squirrels; I don't know how much blood I've given, but I did get a bronze pin. I only stopped when I changed jobs which was in a rural location and the boss wouldn't allow time off to travel into the town. I wanted to do jury service, but never will now because I'm over 70. I hope the prostate cancer never returns.
ReplyDeletePolly: That's a shame that your boss wouldn't allow you time off to travel into the town.
