Both Jenny and I are feeling totally exhausted and in the grip of brain fog. It's all we can do to drag ourselves through the daily chores. I have to stop in the middle of washing up to regain some energy. Just a 30 minute walk round the neighbourhood is absurdly draining. I did manage to get to the MOT (car inspection) centre on Friday to get the car passed as roadworthy.
All I can say is, I hope I can shake this thing off before too long. It's no fun staggering through the day in a mental haze. But it can take anything up to 12 weeks for a full recovery, which is a depressing thought.
Of course I wonder if I might be getting long covid, which affects at least two million people in the UK and can be sufficiently debilitating to prevent many people from working. Luckily I'm retired so I don't need to worry about that.
The risk of getting long covid has dropped to about 3.5 per cent among vaccinated people (which includes me), but that's still a significant number of people.
Watch this space....
You'll be fine. Do absolutely nothing - do not try to do anything, and it will pass sooner.
ReplyDeleteMy friend, in her 80s, had Covid for the second time last month - all her jabs were up to date, but it knocked her for six. I told her to do absolutely nothing as well as she complained of the ongoing fatigue and worried about long Covid. She's much better now.
My first bout was worse than my second. Not looking forward to my next bout, which I guess is inevitable.
Sx
Ms Scarlet: I'll do my best to do nothing, but I'm a restless person so I might not succeed!
DeleteFingers crossed for a speedy recovery Nick, for both of you. 12 weeks would ridiculous, as you say.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liam. I sure hope recovery won't take 12 weeks.
DeleteI had covid before there was a vaccine. It was no fun at all. I have a friend with long covid. Over the years it is better, but still affects her energy. Fingers crossed for you and Jenny.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra. Sorry to hear about your friend. It's very frustrating having so little energy.
DeleteI sure hope you both start feeling better soon. The last time I had Covid it lasted for 4 weeks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary: Four weeks, that's quite a stretch. I hope I don't take that long to recover.
DeleteMy SIL has long covid. She seems to do OK energy wise but totally lost her ability to smell and taste.
ReplyDeleteLinda
Linda: That's sad. I lost my sense of smell some years back (long before covid) but I still have a sense of taste.
DeleteSorry to hear it. Like the tide you'll just have to ride it out. Patience is the name of the game.
ReplyDeleteSmug alert: I decided against being vaccinated. Lo and behold I didn't catch Covid. Luck of the draw I suppose. For all I know I might drop in the next five minutes - because of ... something. The body's inner functions mysterious.
U
Ursula: Indeed, just the luck of the draw that you didn't catch it. Either that or you've been in a cave in the Himalayas for the last five years.
DeleteAt 10 days you're not even close to long covid.
ReplyDeleteIf you're too restless to rest then you're not as sick as you think.
Rest up, be patient, listen to your body's wisdom, eat the best food you can.
Covid is a bitch. I hope you're soon better
Kylie: Yes, my restlessness suggests I'm not that ill. In fact my only obvious symptoms are exhaustion and brain fog. And even the brain fog doesn't stop me blogging!
DeleteOh Nick; so sorry for you and Jenny. I hope you both will recover quickly.
ReplyDeleteSaïd and I had four jabs and never Covid. a little wonder I suppose. We still wear a mask when going in a supermarket , but of course not outside . Wishing you all the best.
Hannah
Thanks, Hannah. I'm feeling more like my normal self now. Hopefully I'll soon be fully recovered.
DeleteI hope you are feeling back to normal now! Oddly, my second bout was much easier than the first.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I have managed not to get this and hope my luck continues. It was bad enough getting over a cold recently and I tested to make sure it was not the other way around ”c” word. Hope that you and Jenny are feeling better soon.
